Why my PTE Writing score is low?
In the PTE Writing Section, there are only two modules, Essay writing, and Summarize Written Text. Instead of these modules, there are also some other modules that contribute to the score in the writing section like “Read and Write fill in the blanks - Reading section” and “Write from dictation -Listening section.” Last week, I gave a Scored PTE Mock Test and got low marks in PTE Writing section. I am good at writing the Essay and Summary but I was surprised to see a low score in the Writing Section. You should try to find the reason and must know, which things are important for Essay Writing. I tried to find the reason and realized the following mistakes:
(1) Practice more of “Read and Write Fill in the blanks”: This section gives almost half of the points to the writing section. In this module, you will see a drop-down with options for each blank. You have to select the correct one from it. I was getting fewer marks in this module due to a lack of practice. You should keep the following things in your mind during the practice:
ü Do not spend more than 1-2 minutes filling in the blanks.
ü Take care while dragging and dropping the word in the blank box. Make sure you drop the word correctly in the blank. You can change the answer any time before you click on the Next button.
ü Carefully read the words before and after the blank. If you understand the passage, you will find the correct word.
ü Improve your vocabulary by reading books, and articles as much as you can. Learn new words, synonyms, and antonyms, and find out the meaning to enhance your knowledge.
ü Follow an elimination strategy. You can eliminate those options that are nowhere close to the meaning of the word that should fit in the sentence. It will help to get the exact word to fill in the blanks.
ü To find the correct word, you have to check the preposition, verbs, and nouns with the blank and check the context of the sentence. Read the sentence before and after it. In this situation, grammar and context will guide you to finalize the right answer.
2) Keep time for “Write from Dictation”: This is the last module of the PTE Listening Section and also contributes points to the writing section. You have to leave enough time for the section. In this module, you will listen to the audio and type it the same as it is in the text box. Keep a few things in your mind while attempting this module:
ü Listen to the audio first, then write it. If you have listened properly to the whole audio, it will not be difficult for you to write it. You can enhance your overall knowledge about the PTE Test from some articles. It will give you guidance to improve your PTE Score.
ü Note down the main keywords and later use those key points to make a complete sentence.
ü The score depends upon how many correct words you get from audio and in which order you put these words. If you are not sure about the order, then arrange them in the correct sequence on the basis of grammar rules.
ü Practice listening to different English audios with different accents, speaking speeds, themes, etc. to make sure that you practice with authentic study material.
ü Review what you have written to check your grammatical mistakes and typing errors.
Practice the Mock Test and repeated questions. There are many good online resources which help to get a good score, you can join any of them. If you will improve your score in the above-mentioned two modules, your score in the writing section will increase automatically. I hope you will take benefit from my personal experience and follow it.
